Little Soles Eco Squeaky Shoes ~Review and Giveaway - CLOSED

Squeak, Squeak, Eco...my little one has been making noise and being green in Little Soles latest collection -Eco Squeaky Shoes. These fun noise-making shoes are made from recycled materials making them very green. Eco Squeaky Shoes are also completely non-toxic, adorable, and (like all Little Soles shoes) are great for developing feet.
We had the chance to try a pair of Little Soles Eco Squeaky Bloom Boots, and they make walking so much fun. They feature a built in squeaky soles that happily squeaks with each step your child takes.  My daughter loves to run around the yard laughing as she squeaks by. They also make walks around the neighborhood so fun and silly. They are a great motivation for new walkers and  help promote a proper heal to toe step. Squeaky shoes are handy for little escape-artists like my youngest too; no more sneaking away for solo walks.  I also really appreciate that the squeak can be easily removed, because sometimes a little quiet is a nice thing.
Little soles is working hard to create shoes that leave no footprint- on the earth that is. Their latest Eco Squeaky Shoes are made almost completely out of recycled materials (destined for landfills). The leather is  recycled remnants and the soles are made from recycled rubber. Little Soles is also a very environmentally responsible company, and even ships their shoes in re-usable and biodegradable jute bags (with tags made from recycled materials and soy based ink).

The best thing about these shoes is that they are completely safe for your little one. Little Soles Eco Squeaky Shoes are free of harmful dyes and toxins. Inside and outside materials are stringently tested for AZO dyes,  formaldehyde, and the 7 Toxic elements (Lead, Arsenic, Antimony, Barium, Mercury, Cadmium, Selenium). I was shocked to learn that a lot of children's shoes contain these toxins- how scary is that?
055
My daughter and I both completely adore these shoes. They are gentle on the planet, safe for kids, and are built for comfort. The Bloom Boots we tried are also so adorable- with sweet white flowers. My little one also has so much fun with the squeaking. She lights up every time she puts them on! I completely recommend Little Soles Eco Squeaky Shoes and am thrilled to be able to offer a pair for giveaway.

Shop: Little Soles Eco Squeaky Shoes, as well as a great selection of other collections for babies, toddlers, and kids can be bought online at LittleSolesStore.com and at these retailers across Canada and the US. The Bloom Boots my daughter tried are available in toddlers sizes 3-8 and retail for $38.95 CAD.

Elizabeth Mitchell ~ Sunny Day Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

I am a huge Elizabeth Mitchell fan- this folky song-bird makes the most beautiful children's music. So when I heard she was releasing a new CD I was over-the-moon, and Sunny Day does not disappoint. This family oriented folk album celebrates the natural world and family togetherness with 19 sweet singable songs. Me and my girls have fallen in love with this album, keep reading to see why and for your chance to win a copy for your family.

In true folk tradition, Elizabeth Mitchell has gathered friends and family in the making of her latest CD Sunny Day. She is joined by her husband and musical partner, Daniel Littleton, as well as famous friends such as Dan Zanes. Elizabeth Mitchell's very talented nine year old daughter, Storey, also lends her voice to many songs. Storey also wrote two of the songs on the album, and they are amazing. This loving family collaboration gives Sunny Day such a warm homey feeling inviting listeners to join in and sing along.
Elizabeth Mitchell's songs have a magical way of weaving themselves into the fabric of our lives. I'm not sure if its the nature of folk music, her sweet singable lyrics, or the way she makes her albums a family affair,  but me and my girls always gravitate towards her music. Many of the songs from her last couple of albums can be heard being sung in my home daily, shared with friends around campfires, and are included in bedtime routines. Her songs just become the soundtrack of our lives, and even after a couple short weeks her new album has succeeded in doing it again.
I love the universal appeal of Elizabeth Mitchell; like her previous albums Sunny Day is sure to be loved by parents and children alike. My youngest daughter especially loves Oh, John The Rabbit and requests it to be played again and again while she happily sings along. We also take turns singing the lead, laughing and having a blast. My older girls both really love the song Lovely Day, and especially enjoy the beautiful chorus. My favorite songs on Sunny Day are the traditional folk songs such as This Little Light of Mine and Shoo Lie Loo. These are songs I remember singing as a child and I  really enjoying sharing them with my girls. If you have a listen to this CD, I'm sure you will find many favorites as well.

Watch and Listen: My little ones favorite song: Oh, John the Rabbit has been offered as a free download at Smithsonian Folkways. {You can watch the video above}. You can also download a template to design your own mask, like the one featured on the cover of this album, hereThe Tour: see Elizabeth Mitchell and her family band live! They are currently on tour- oh I wish they were coming to my town. Visit her website for show dates and places.
Shop: Sunny Day is Available at Smithsonian Folkways in digital download format (for 9.99 US) or on CD (for 11.98 US). It comes with a lovely 28-page booklet that includes a forward my Amanda Blake Soule and personal song notes by Elizabeth Mitchell.

Suncoat Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

The last aspect of my life to go green and natural has been my make-up. Its can be really hard to find natural make-up that performs as well as traditional cosmetics, so I am thrilled to have discovered Suncoat. This Canadian business is best known for their water-based nail polish, but they also have a wonderful line of natural cosmetics and haircare. I tried Suncoat Natural Mascara and Lipstick, while my girls had a chance to try some awesome water-based nail polish from their kids line - Suncoat Girl. I have been really happy with everything we tried, keep reading to see why and for your chance to win some water-based nail polish.

Moisturizing Natural LipstickThis amazing natural lipstick has completely transformed me into a lipstick wearing mama. I'm usually more of a gloss kind of girl, but Suncoat Lipstick is so nice to wear. Unlike most lipstick, it goes on smooth and never sticky. It almost feels like a lip-stain, and lasts for hours. Suncoat Moisturizing Lipstick contains cocoa butter and coconut oil making it ultra moisturizing too.  I choose the fall inspired Warm Burnt and I wear it all the time. Suncoat Lipstick comes in a renewable bamboo cartridge, that is good for the planet and really pretty too.

Natural Mascara- I tried a tube of natural sugar based mascara from Sun Coat and I am in love. To be honest I was very sceptical of this product because I have tried natural mascara in the past and been disappointed, but not this time. Suncoat Natural Mascara is a sugar based mascara that performs wonderfully; it goes on nicely, makes my lashes look long and dark (and never clumpy). I also love that it doesn't smudge, lasts all day,  and is easy to wash off. I have sensitive eyes, so I appreciate how completely natural this mascara is (it gets a great score of one on the skin-deep data base).Suncoat Natural Mascara contains no synthetic chemicals and is completely free of PVP, Fragrance, Paraben, Alcahol, Acrylics or vinyls. It contains vegan ingredients such as sugar-based polymer, kaolin clay, earth pigments, and Vitamin E that have been blended together to make a perfect natural mascara.
Suncoat Girl Nail Polish: My girls had the chance to try the a bottle of pretty pink peel-able polish from Suncoat Girl. This water-based nail-polish for children is such a great product. It peels off, so you don't even need polish removed- how cool is that! My girls have been having fun playing dress-up with this polish and I love that they can peel it off at the end of the night. In fact, it peels off very easily and leaves no trace of polish. I did notice to get a nice color and be able to peel off the polish, two coats is needed.
006
I also love that Suncoat Girl Polish has no odor and is much safer than traditional polish. This water based polish is completely non-toxic and safe for kids. It contains NO Phthalates, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Acetates, Alcohol, Glycol ethers, and dyes like traditional polish. My girls love to paint their nails, and I feel relieved that Suncoat has created a great safe alternative for little hands. Suncoat Girl Peel-able Nail Polish is the perfect addition to any sleep-over or girl night, and would also make a great gift for any little girl on your list this holiday season.
I have been really happy with all three Suncoat products reviewed above. They all perform beautifully while also being eco-friendly and naturally gentle. As a huge animal lover, I also really value that Suncoat does not test on animals and uses only vegan ingredients. I completely recommend Suncoat and will definitely be buying these cosmetics again in the future.

Shop: All of the products reviewed above can be bought at SuncoatProducts.com or at locations across Canada and the US. Suncoat Natural Mascara retails for 14.99 - and is available in Black, Brown, and Navy blue. Suncoat Moisturizing Lipstick is available in 10 fab colors and retails for 20.99. Suncoat Girl nail polish comes in 8 fun colors and retails for 8.99.
The Giveaway: Suncoat has generously offered to give one of my readers a bottle of their Suncoat Girl Nail Polish (winners choice of color).

Tiny Modernist Dress Review

If your looking for a holiday dress for your little girl, you have to check out Tiny Modernist. This Canadian boutique features modern and hip clothing with retro flair for babies and kids. I especially love their dresses- they are so colorful and unique making them perfect holiday party dresses.  Each beautiful Tiny Modernist item is hand-made in Canada and is a complete treasure.

My little one tried the Emmaline 70s Style Girls Dress from Tiny Modernist and it is so unique and beautiful. My daughter honestly gets so many compliments whenever she leaves the house in it. I love the bold colorful fabric, cute square neckline, and buttoned shoulders for easy changes. The Emmaline Dress  is also beautifully crafted out of 100% preshrunk cotton, with attention to detail, and professional finishing. This is definitely a dress that will be passed down through my family for years to come.
The Emmaline Dress is also completely kid friendly and wearable. It has a loose fit making it comfortable and movable for my active little girl. The cut of this dress is super versatile too- and it will easily grow with my daughter from a longer dress to a tunic style she can wear with leggings. Like all Tiny modernist dresses, the Emmaline Dress is also machine washable (making it mom friendly too).

Tiny Modernist is owned an operated by a trained fashion designer and artist, who lives in Toronto. After the birth of her first daughter, she noticed it was hard to find unique and modern clothes for her little one. This inspired her to create Tiny Modernist, and her line continues to grow. I love supporting mom-owned Canadian businesses and I feel great recommending Tiny Modernist.

Gloves Off and Concrobium: Natural Cleaners - Review and Giveaway

As many of you know we sold our home and moved this month, and I have been cleaning and cleaning to get both places clean and move-in ready. So the timing was perfect for me to try some new Natural Cleaners from Gloves Off and Concrobium. These Canadian made cleaners do the tough jobs that most natural cleaners can't; while still being safe for your home, your family, and the planet . Keep reading to learn more and for the chance to win a pack of natural cleaners for your home.

Gloves Off Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover: Finally a way to remove water staining without having to use toxic cleaners. Gloves Off new Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover is an all natural (non-corrosive) solution that allows you to safely and effectively remove the toughest water stains from your home. The first thing that impressed me with this cleaner is that is only has three ingredients (water, salt, and natural alcohol). These ingredients are biodegradable, safe for septic systems, and eco-friendly. So does it work? I tried it in our vintage sink and tub that have a lot of rust staining and it worked really well- after a quick scrub the staining was completely gone. I also tried in in our glass coffee pot and after a quick wash with Gloves Off, the staining disappeared.
Gloves Off Tough Stain Remover: Sharpie pen + new hardwood floors = complete disaster? well not anymore thanks to my new favorite stain remover from Gloves Off. My toddler somehow has permanent pen radar- no matter how well I hide them, she always manages to find them just as I am distracted for a couple minutes. Well today she made "tiger stripes" on our hardwood floors, and thankfully I grabbed the Gloves Off stain remover- and watched in complete relief as it took the pen right off. This stuff is simply amazing- and it can even be used on carpet. I have been using it around the house to remove a variety of stains and it really works great. It is also completely safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable.
Gloves Off Disinfectant & Cleaner: Those of you who use a lot of natural cleaners will know its not easy finding a safe and natural disinfectant- in fact its almost impossible. So I was really thrilled to have discovered Gloves Off Disinfectant. The first thing I like to do when i move into a new house is disinfect- so this product has gotten a lot of use these last couple of weeks and it works wonderfully. The active ingredients in this cleaner are oils of thyme and oregano, and it is completely natural and safe. Although I must admit the pizza-like smell did surprise me at first, it is pretty mild and completely worth it to have a house that is free of bacteria and viruses. In fact, Gloves Off Disinfectant kills most viruses and bacteria including staph, salmonella, E.coli, Listeria, and H1N1 while also cleaning beautifully. I have been using it in the bathroom and the kitchen, and feel great knowing my home is not only disease free, but also toxin free and safe.

Concrobium Mold Control: I love almost everything about our new house: its an old heritage house with lots of funky extras. The only thing I don't love is it has a moisture and mold problem- yuck! Just by chance (or by the universe sending me what I need), I discovered the mold within days of receiving a bottle of Concrobium Mold Control- and have been using it a ton. Concrobium is a natural solution that fights mold without harsh chemicals such as bleach, ammonia or VOCs. This all natural solution kills mold, prevents it from returning, and eliminates musty odors. I have been using this on all the musty moldy spots in our basement, as well as new mold we have found on our furniture and bathroom tiles and it has been working really well. I noticed the Concrobium Mold Control has stopped new mold from growing, and it completely removed the old mold from our tiles and leather furniture. Mold really scares me because it is such a huge health concern and can even cause cancer. Thankfully, I feel I have made our home much more safe and mostly mold free thanks to natural Concrobium Mold Control.
I have been really happy with the quality of all of the products reviewed above. They all clean amazingly well, with simple and natural ingredients. I will definitely be buying Gloves Off and Concrobium products again and I completely recommend them for anyone looking for natural cleaners that work hard to keep your home clean and safe.

Shop:  Gloves Off Products are available at Canadian Tire, Home Depot, and these retailers across Canada. Concrobium is available at most major retailers (including Home Depot, Loblaws, Wal-mart, and Canadian Tire).

The Giveaway: The Planet People co (the company behind Gloves Off and Concrobium) has generously offered to give one of my readers ALL of the products reviewed above (Gloves Off Stain Remover, Disinfectant, Calcium/ Lime/Rust Remover and Concrobium) a $30 value.

Buy Green ~ Sovereign Earth Filtration Bottle Review and Giveaway

Buy Green is a great online source for all things green and natural. They have an amazing range of products and carry everything from organic bedding, to natural baby gear, to green house paint. Their site is very easy to navigate and the they have carefully selected and researched each item they carry to bring you only safe and eco-friendly products. I love shopping at Buy Green and I'm sure you will too.
One of my favorite things about Buy Green is their Green Standards. This standard is set and applied to the life-cycle of each product that they carry. Buy Green gives the product a rating and writes a detailed report on every aspect of the product- telling me not only why it is green, but also to what extent it is green. In a world with a lot of green washing and shades of green- I really value that Buy Green has taken the time to make me a more informed shopper. You can learn more here.
I had the opportunity to try a wonderfully designed water bottle from Buy Green - The Sovereign Earth Filtration Bottle. This stainless steel water bottle features a built-in water filter- how cool is that? This completely BPA free system is made with food grade stainless steel and a non-leaching filter/top. The Sovereign Earth water filter removes up to 99.99% of common contaminants and produces safe- and tasteless water. I have been using the bottle at home, because our water is saturated with chlorine and I have been really  happy with the results. The bottle is easy to use (simply fill and sip) and the resulting water tastes completely pure.
I hate plastic bottles (they are so bad for the environment), but I admit that when I am traveling I sometimes do buy them because of lack of suitable water. The Sovereign Earth Filtration Bottle has completely solved this dilemma for me. In fact, this filtered bottle replaces over 800 regular 16oz plastic water bottles in its lifetime, keeping them out of land-fills. Spending less and reducing my impact on our earth- yay! The bottle and filter are also completely recycle-able, making them a must have for anyone looking for a  reliable source of clean water that doesn't pollute.

I have been really happy with Buy Green; Their shipping is incredible fast, there prices are very competitive, and they have great customer service. Buy Green is also very green! They not only carrying the best earth friendly products, but also ship in re-used packaging, support a variety of eco-organizations, and run their business in a way that leaves the smallest possible footprint.

Shop: The Sovereign Earth Filtration Bottle reviewed above can be purchased at Buy Green for $34.95, and is available in black, blue, stainless, or white.
The Giveaway: Buy Green has offered to give one of my readers the same Sovereign Earth Filtration Bottle that I tried (winners choice of color).

Happy Thanksgiving Canada (and a giveaway winner)

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We had a beautiful veggie feast last night, and took time to reflect on everything that makes us feel thankful. For me its always family and friends that top my list.

And I am so thankful for all my blog readers-  and am happy to announce the winner of the Alo Yoga wear Giveaway. Congratulations to Emily B (comment #231) you have won a lovely bamboo jacket from Alo. I love my Alo Jacket and I`me sure you will too. I will e-mail you soon.

Thanks to all who entered this giveaway and Alo Sport for sponsoring such a great giveaway.
