Ty and Lumi Organics Review and Giveaway

The chilly fall weather has really gotten me and my girls in the mood to snuggle down under some warm and cozy blankets. So the timing couldn't be better for my latest organic bedding find ~ Ty and Lumi Organics. This proudly Canadian company has created a lovely line of organic bedding that includes sleep sacks, organic sheets, organic blankets, duvet covers, and burp clothes. Everything is stylish, unique, and made in Canada with the best quality certified organic cotton.

My little one was sent the bright and modern Sleeping Green Duvet Cover and we completely love it. It is everything a duvet should be: thick, soft, well made, and organic. It is also completely beautiful! I love the modern nature themed print and the bright green color. It looks great in my daughters crib, and is large enough that It will grow with her and move to her toddler bed soon.
004

The Quality of Ty and Lumi Bedding is outstanding. The Sleeping Green Duvet Cover we tried is really well made and thoughtfully designed. I especially love the hidden multi snap closure that keeps my daughters quilt in place. It washes up beautifully as well, and gets softer with each wash. My daughter completely loves how cozy and warm this duvet cover is, and I love that it is gentle on her and the environment. I truly recommend Ty and Lumi for all your organic bedding needs....now if they only made adult bedding I would be in heaven.
I like to buy local as much as possible- its green and supports our local economy-  so I was thrilled when I learned that Ty and Lumi are committed to local production too. Their bedding is designed, silk screened, and made in Vancouver, BC under fair working conditions. Ty and Lumi Bedding is also natural and safe (for baby and our planet). It is made with certified organic cotton twill and dyed using water based inks.
Ty and Lumi Organics is owned by two moms who are passionate about organics and the desire to create clean and safe bedding for their children and yours. Ty and Lumi was born when Jillian wanted organic bedding for her baby, but was frustrated by the muted and boring organic bedding choices. With her great eye for style and a desire to make quality organics, she created Snug as a Bug Organic Baby Bedding. She soon recruited Wendy, a mom who shared her passion for natural and organic products, and the two joined forces to create Ty and Lumi Organics. The business has been growing quickly ever since, but is still committed to locally made, high quality organics.

Shop: Ty and Lumi's lovely selection of Organic Bedding can be purchased at Ty and Lumi .com or at these online shops. The Sleeping Green Crib/Toddler Bed Duvet Cover reviewed above retails for  $149 CAD.
The Giveaway: Ty and Lumi Organics has generously offered to give one of my readers a three pack of their ultra soft and pretty organic Burp Cloths (a $39 Value!).

GreenPan Review

Last year I ditched all of our non-stick cookware after reading articles like this from Health Canada (stating test have shown that the ingredients in non-stick coatings are carcinogenic). After further reading I also learned that traditional pans treated  with PTFE release toxic fumes if accidentally overheated. Although I love the convenience of non-stick coatings when cooking, I just couldn't put my families health at risk any longer. We use a lot of cast-iron, but sometimes I really miss my non-stick skillets. Well I did before I tried Green Pan that is- this amazing pan works better than traditional non-stick skillets on the market but its completely safe!
Green Pan uses Thermolon™ - A natural, non-stick mineral-based coating. It doesn't contain any harmful chemicals and is completely PTFE and silicone free. It is heat resistant up to 450°C/850°F and never releases toxic fumes if overheated. Thermolon™ technology also makes cooking a dream- it retains heat, moisture, and flavor all with the convenience of non-stick. I also love that GreenPan guarantees quality with a 5 year warranty.

I had the opportunity to try the GreenPan open fry pan from the Stockholm Collection and I have been completely blown-away by the performance and convenience. It is completely non-stick, and even works great without any oil. I love using mine for making eggs without oil or butter. They taste great without all the fat. My GreenPan has also been making beautifully golden pancakes, crispy pan fries, and cheesy omelettes- all without any sticking. It has definitely become my new favorite pan. The heat distribution is perfect, which gives me even cooking and perfect browning. GreenPan cookware is also a snap to clean- just give it a quick wipe and it is completely clean (no scrubbing needed).
Green Pan is super eco-friendly too. They use up-cycled stainless steel for their handles and up-cycled aluminum for the body- giving these materials a second life. Traditional non-stick pans use PFOA (PerFluoroOctanoic Acid), which is classified as a ‘persistent pollutant of the environment’. Green Pan production, on the other hand, uses mineral based technology that results in 60% less CO2 emissions during production. GreenPan also uses packaging that is recycled and bleach free.

I completely recommend GreenPan to anyone looking for non-stick cookware that is safe, gentle on the planet, and that works.

Shop: GreenPan products can be found worldwide, check out their Where to Buy Page for a retailer near you. In Canada you can purchase them at Sears Canada.

Giving Gifts - Envirosax Review and Giveaway

As I've mentioned before I love using my shopping dollars to make a positive change, so I am thrilled to be teaming up with Giving Gifts again. This fair-trade, eco-friendly, and fabulous online shop carries a lovely selection of gifts for babies, kids, pets, and adults. Every item they carry has been thoughtfully chosen to be ethically produced and Giving Gifts makes a donation to charity for each gift bought.
This mom-owned Canadian gift store is committed to helping you find the perfect ethical gift for absolutely everyone on your list. Giving Gifts has a great selection of natural toys, green lunch products, natural art supplies, and the coolest green essentials. I also really love how each gift bought from Giving Gifts comes with a card outlining how your purchase has given to others. For the Envirosax Bag that I tried, Giving Gifts made a donation to Carli's Kids to help build the new Abetavu Children's Village. I completely recommend you visit Giving Gifts and buy the change you want to see.
I had a chance to try one of the wonderful green Envirosax Bags from Giving Gifts. Envirosax re-usable bags feature a wide variety of hip, modern, and unique graphics that make going green look oh so stylish. I have been using the nature themed Bird Envirosax Bag and it is so bright and fun. It was designed by Animal Planet (my fave channel) and it aways reminds me of one of the reasons I am committed to environmental responsibility- my love for animals and nature. This bag is completely ethical too; its made under a fair trade agreement and its use keeps thousands of plastic bags from polluting our precious earth.

Besides being completely beautiful, the Envirosax Bag is a very well designed re-usable bag. It is made with super strong polyester that holds up to 44 pounds and is conveniently waterproof and washable. I also really love that Envirosax fold up so small, it makes it easy and convenient to always have one on hand. Envirosax re-usable bags can be used for just about everything- I take mine to the farmers market, the grocery store, use it as a beach bag, and will be buying them to use as gift bags this Christmas.

Shop: Envirosax Re-usable Bags can be bought online at Giving Gifts.ca for $9. They have a great selection and even carry a bright and cute Sesame Street Envirosax Pouch, that I've added to my wish list.

SALE: Giving Gifts is having a fantastic sale right now- head on over and receive 10% off all orders (over $30) until September 30th by using the code: septsale

Alo Yoga Wear Review and Giveaway {with discount}

Looking for active wear that is kind to our earth without sacrificing style and function? Alo creates quality yoga lifestyle clothing with a conscience. Their name - ALO stands for Air. Land. Ocean. and their stylish active wear is designed and produced with minimal impact on these elements of the earth. Alo uses the latest technologies in high performance sportswear to create pieces that are as functional as they are green and I completely recommend Alo Sport.

Alo clothing is wonderfully stylish and beautiful too. They have so many gorgeous pieces that are designed for the yoga studio, but that are also designed to make you feel beautiful when you wear them. Alo has truly bridged the gap between fitness, function, and fashion to create a truly amazing clothing line.
I had the chance to try two wonderfully soft and stylish items from Alo:
The Yoga Relax Jacket is so comfortable and flattering. Its a perfect hoodie for yoga, running,or fitness classes, but is stylish enough for everyday wear. The cut is really complimentary with a long waste, long sleeves, and ruching along the pockets and chest. It also hugs my hips perfectly so it doesn't ride up when I am working out. The Yoga Relax Jacket is so comfortable too, and I have honestly been living in it ever since it arrived.
Alo also sent me a pair of their Yoga Pull On Crop Pants and I completely love them. These bamboo yoga carpi's are so adorable and comfortable. They feature an adjustable drawstring waste, flattering pockets, and just a really great cut. They also have sweet laces at the cuff that you can either leave loose and flared, or tighten to get a harem look. Like most of the active wear from Alo, the Yoga Pull On Crop Pants are also multifunctional. They are a great choice for any sport, while stylish enough to wear around town.
Both the jacket and the pants are  made with a lovely blend of bamboo and cotton and they feel like silk next to my skin. They both also wash up beautifully with no shrinking or piling. I love bamboo for so many reasons and it is especially great for active wear since it naturally wicks away moisture,  is antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and breathable.

I'm loving how green ALO is- as mentioned there name is an acronym for air, land and ocean and they are committed to making business choices that reduce their negative impact on all three. They use solar panels to generate electricity for their LA headquarters, drive a hybrid car, recycle, and even compost. ALO also uses earth friendly materials to make their clothing including;  Modal, bamboo, organic cotton and recycled polyester. To learn more about how ALO is making the world a greener place and how you can too, check out their Define Your Green page.

Shop: The Yoga Relax Jacket and Yoga Pull On Crop Pants reviewed above, as well as many more lovely pieces, can be bought online from Alosport.com. They have also offered my readers a 20% Discount- use the code bloglove2010 at checkout.

The Giveaway: Alo has offered to give one of my readers the same Yoga Relax Jacket reviewed above in winners choice of size- love it!

Jilly Bo Billy ~ Review and Giveaway

I love buying clothing that is unique and designed by independent Canadian Designers. I am even happier if I can find these cool clothes at a reduced price, so I am completely over the moon about my latest online find- Jilly bo Billy Boutique. This hip online boutique specialized in independent designer baby and kids clothes at discounted prices. They also carry a great selection of organic and eco-friendly clothing!

I have been really happy with my experience with Jilly bo Billy and I completely recommend this awesome Canadian shop. Jilly bo Billy has an amazing selection of great boutique brands, including Room Seven, Misha Lulu, Decaf Plush, Punkin, Kumquat, Jack and Lily, and more. Their great customer service and easy navigation makes shopping a pleasure- I especially love that I can search out deals by size, price, designer, and even color. I try to shop local and support small business, so I also really value that Jilly bo Billy is a small BC business that is supporting other independent business owners.

I had the chance to try the beautiful Eco Bamboo Butterfly Dress from Jilly bo Billy. This sweet bamboo tunic is made in Canada by Punkin; a super talented independent designer. The quality and attention to detail is obvious with sweet touches such as fabric covered buttons, a hand silk screened patch, and surged seams. The color is also amazingly rich, and the bamboo is really soft and cozy. My daughter asks to wear this dress all the time- its so stylish and comfortable making it a perfect everyday dress.
The cut of  Eco Bamboo Butterfly Dress makes it grow with your child, which my frugal-self loves. It fits my little one now as a long dress, and will fit her as a tunic, then a top as she grows. Its also a super versatile piece, being cute as a summer dress and great with tights and a sweater as the fall weather turns cold. I completely recommend this dress for any one looking for an eco-friendly dress that has the quality and design to make it last for years and years.

Shop: Jilly bo Billy really is a great place to find designer duds at amazingly low prices. They even have a 99 cents deal of the day that is amazing! The Punkin Eco Bamboo Butterfly Dress reviewed above is regularly priced at $45.95 but retails for $41.95 at Jilly bo Billy.

The Giveaway: Jilly bo Billy has generously offered to give one of my readers any in-stock Punkin Item. So you can choose from the cool hats, dresses, or boys shirts.

Once Upon a Pose: Yoga Guide~ Review and Giveaway

I love teaching my girls new activities and have been having a blast teaching them yoga with my new book- Once Upon a Pose, by Donna Freeman. This fun and informative guide provides parents and teachers with all of the skills they need to teach yoga to children. Once upon a Pose offers fun and easy Yoga lessons for kids ages 3-12 including;10 yoga adventure stories, breathing exercises, yoga basics, clear illustrations of each pose discussed, and a multitude of fantastic games and activities.

I love how easy and fun this book is to use. Even though I am a novice yoga gal myself, I was teaching my girls poses within minutes. This creative book features yoga adventure stories to capture children's imagination and it really makes yoga a blast. Each time me and my girls have taken part in a lesson we have all end up laughing and having so much fun. We have all quickly gotten the hang of the simple poses and my girls have been asking for yoga time again and again. Even my two year old can easily take part, since the stories are easy to understand and can be adapted for her shorter attention span. I have been finding the section on guided imagery a great tool for my older daughter when she is stressed out or frustrated too. Once Upon a Pose has so many applications and really has the power to improve your children's lives on so many levels.
Once Upon a Pose is a wonderful resource for teachers or home-educators. It corresponds to the Canadian program of studies, meeting the DPA (Daily Physical Activity) Requirements. It is a great way to break up desk work and improve focus and concentration while helping kids get fit. Once Upon a Pose also has so many opportunities for integrated learning-  each yoga adventure story has suggestions for music and books to enhance learning. I found it easy to make my own learning connections as well. Once Upon A Pose also contains French translations of each story, and a wonderful section on Yoga for special needs children. I completely recommend this book for everyone with kids or who works with kids- it is an amazing book.

The Author, Donna Freeman, has a great website called Yoga in My School. It has an incredible amount of information for anyone interested in how yoga can improve the lives of children. I especially love the great articles on creative yoga activities for kids, as well  the wealth of information for teachers interested in incorporating yoga into their classrooms. Yoga in my School even offers a free yoga story e-book download. This will definitely be a site I will be visiting again and again in my adventures in teaching my girls yoga .
Buy a copy for yourself: Once Upon A Pose can be bought online here for $18.98 USD.

The Giveaway: The Author of Once Upon a Pose has generously offered to give a copy of her book to one of my readers.

Earthust Birds and Bees Bottle Review and 25% Discount

I have been a fan of Earthlust for a while now- they make some of the nicest stainless steel bottles around (see my review). So I was thrilled when I heard that Earthlust started making Stainless Steel Baby Bottles. Earthlust's new Birds and Bees Baby Bottles do not disappoint. These stainless steel insulated bottles are BPA free, easy to care for, and come with a sippy spout allowing them evolve into a sippy cup. They are also so pretty and feature sweet nature themes (either birds or bees) and comes in cool colors.
My favorite thing about Earthlust's Birds and Bee's Bottle is that it transitions into a sippy. Since this bottle grows with your child-  parents get more value and less waste ends up in our landfills. It comes with a bottle nipple for babies, then evolves to a sippy with the addition of removable handles and a sippy spout (which along with a cap- are included with each bottle). Since my daughter is two we have been using it as a sippy and it works beautifully. My daughter took to this cup right away and loves to bring it everywhere.

The Birds and Bees Bottle is very thoughtfully designed. One of the things that really sets this sippy apart from other ones we have is the fact that it is insulated. I love this!! So when my daughter wakes up in the morning- her milk is not spoiled. The insulated bottle also keeps her little hands from freezing when she holds it, which is really nice now that the weather is cooling off . Earthlust's new Birds and Bees Bottle is also very easy to clean, with no hidden grooves or holes. The bottles are completely safe and non-toxic- have no BPA, Phthalates, or PVC. I've been recommending Earthlust's new Birds and Bees Bottles to all my friends ever since we tried it and I completely recommend it to all of you too.
Shop: Earthlust baby bottles have not yet hit Canadian stores, but Canadians can get Birds and Bees Bottles online at Stork Organic Baby Boutique - they ship to Canada for only $6.95 and have amazing customer service. I've also found a cool shop that has a good selection of Earthlust Water Bottles and ships to Canada here. American readers can find the Birds and Bees Baby Bottles online from Earthlust or at select retailers.

Discount: Earthlust has generously offered to give my readers 25% discount off any Earthlust purchases made through their site until the end of September- yay!! Just enter the code MAMA at checkout time.

I'm on a cleaning kick these days, I think its a combination of that nesting feeling I always get in the fall and the fact that we are selling our house. I love organic and natural products, but I also like to surround myself with beauty and good quality- Eden Home has blended the best of both worlds. They carry the best quality organic, natural, and eco-friendly products for your family and home. They are also committed to beauty and style, and carry products that make you and  your home natural and stylish.

I have also been so happy with the great staff at Eden Home- their shipping is fast and reasonable and everyone is so nice. I completely recommend them for all your green shopping.
Eden Home sent me a pair of Yoga Crop Pants by Blue Canoe to review and they are wonderful. I love the figure flattering cut of these yoga pants- they are snug through the hips and thighs and flared at the bottom. They also have a wide fold-over waistband that hides my tummy chub nicely. They are great for yoga classes, jogging, everyday wear, or even apple-picking. I love how they contain a little spandex, allowing them to hug your body and keep their shape. I have been wearing them like leggings under long tops and they are really cute and oh so cozy.
I have been a fan of Blue Canoe for a while now and I was thrilled to see that Eden Home carries a great selection of their organic clothing at the absolute best prices. Like all Blue Canoe clothing, the Yoga Crop Pants are made with the finest quality, softest, organic cotton. They feel so plush and soft and wash up beautifully- with no shrinking. The pants contain no latex and are made in the US under fair working conditions. I wear mine all the time and completely love them.
