Green Works Natural Cleaners Review and Giveaway - CLOSED

Its spring cleaning time - so I jumped at the opportunity to try out some new and wonderfully green cleaning products from Green Works ~by Clorox. With products that are safe for your family, biodegradable, and made with natural plant and mineral based ingredients- you cant go wrong with Green Works. As a big animal lover, I also really appreciate that Green Works products are not tested on animals. Keep Reading to learn more and for your chance to win some Green Works Cleaning Products.

Green Works has worked hard to bring us green products without sacrificing the great cleaning power that is synonymous with Clorox. All of the Green Works Products are made with ingredients that come from renewable resources, are biodegradable and are free of petrochemicals. Green Works products are at least 95% natural, and they continue to strive to develop alternatives so that the entire line can be 100% natural in the near future. Additionally Green Works uses only recyclable packaging, is very reasonably priced, and is readily available in most grocery and department stores across Canada and the US.

I have always wanted to buy those wonderful cleaning wipes that I see at the grocery store- but since I do try to be green I could never Bring Myself to do it. Well, now that Green Works has come out with Natural Cleaning Wipes I am in easy cleaning heaven. I recently tried the Natural Cleaning Wipes from Clorox, and they are amazing (like a baby wipe for your home). These wipes are 99% natural, completely compostable, and they never leave harsh chemical residue behind. They are also extremely convenient. I have been using them everywhere and especially love them for nasty hard to clean spots like patio furniture and window tracks (no more rinsing dead bugs out of my rags- yippee). They are also great for dusting and wiping up little spills around the house. I love the (guilt free) convenience of Green Works Natural Cleaning Wipes and I will definitely be buying them from now on.

I also had the opportunity to try the All-Purpose Cleaner from Green Works and I have been using this product on every inch of my home. With Spring Cleaning, and the fact that our home is for sale, it feels like all I do these days is clean. Having an all-purpose cleaner is a huge time saver, and I love that this one is made with plant and mineral based ingredients. I have mostly been using this cleaner for my bathroom and kitchen, but it also works great for cleaning the highchair and washing the walls. I also used it recently to do a thorough cleaning of my oven and range and I was happily surprised how well it took off burnt on grime and grease. I also dumped some in my mop bucket and it got my floors sparkling clean. Green Works All-Purpose Cleaner is dermatologist-tested, gentle on hands, and has amazing cleaning power without harsh chemicals. Again I will definitely be buying this Green Works Cleaner again and I completely recommend it.
The Green Works site has a ton of great info on how to be more green, including this wonderful article by HGTV's Sarah Richardson on how to give your laundry room an eco-friendly make-over. It contains 3 easy steps to make your laundry room a green place, including switching to one of Green Works new line of natural detergents. I use Green Works Laundry detergent often, and it works great, is gentle, and is very reasonably Priced.

I love that Green Works supports green initiatives and communities with programs such as The Green Grant Program and The Green Works Clothing Swap. They have also recently formed an alliance with The Sierra Club and they are supporters of BlogHer- very cool!

Buy: As mentioned Green Works cleaning products can be found just about everywhere, and they are always reasonably priced. For a store locator and online directory check out the Where to buy page here.

Giveaway Closed- congrats Silver Neon

Bumblebee Toys Review and Playsilk Giveaway - CLOSED

Ever Since I made the decision to only purchase natural toys for my kids, I have had so much fun seeking out cool natural toys. There are so many beautiful, safe, and fun green toys on the market these days and a huge selection of them can be found at Bumblebee Toys. This Canadian shop carries an outstanding selection of imaginative, beautiful, educational, and whimsical toys for children of all ages. Read on to learn more and find out how you can win some beautiful playsilks.

I had the chance to try the playsilks from Bumblebee Toys. They are so beautiful and simply perfect for nurturing and feeding a child's imagination. Playsilks encourage imaginative play and allow children to play freely, which is so important. My girls all love the playsilks from Bumblebee Toys, and have been using them as capes, as faerie dresses, for building forts, as blankets for dolls, and as head scarves. My youngest mostly just loves to hold them and run around the yard joyfully or play peek-a-boo with them. I also love the ideas from the playsilks wrapper, including; use them as slings for baby dolls, tie two together to make genie pants, use for magic tricks, make a veil, or use a silk for wrapping for a gift.
The Playsilks at Bumblebee Toys are lovely quality, 100% silk, and are so soft. They come in a rainbow of bright colors and are dyed with child safe non-toxic dyes. In my opinion playsilks are one of the best toys you can buy- they are inexpensive, natural, and are loved by kids from birth until teen years (and beyond). I know my girls enjoy playing with them for hour upon hour, and I will be adding many more colors to our collection.
Bumblebee Toys also carries a beautifully colorful string for finger games like "cat's cradle"- so fun! As soon as our string game arrived it was snatched up by my oldest daughter who has been playing with it ever since. She loves to play cats cradle and other string games, and this nylon hand-dyed string works perfectly. We keep ours in the van for an easy way to keep my older girls entertained on the road. In our home often the simplest toys are played with the most, and this definitely applies to the string we got from Bumblebee toys.
Bumble Bee Toys is an amazing, family owned and operated, online toy-store that I feel great supporting. They believe that every child deserves the best and they carry only the most beautiful, unique, and imaginative playthings. Bumblebee Toys strives to carry playthings that are close to nature, non-commercialized, safe, and that feed the imagination. Everything at Bumblebee Toys is lovingly tested by the owners own family and is sure to be loved by your family as well.

I have had so much fun shopping around at Bumblebee Toys. As mentioned their selection is amazing, their toys are so fun, and the shop is very easy to navigate. They also have lots of extras, like a great Easter Page with ideas and links for a creative and natural Easter.

Win Here too: Bumblebee Toys is having their own giveaway as well, just fill out a short survey here and be entered in a draw to win a free tub of Chocolate scented "Doughlicious" playing dough, mmmmm.
Buy: Everything mentioned above can be found at Bumblebeetoys.com. They are currently offering free shipping within Canada on all orders over 200$.

Giveaway closed and winner announced :)

Lillebaby EveryWear Organic Carrier Review

I love to wear my baby, and I love organic bamboo- so I am so excited to tell you about a lovely new organic bamboo baby carrier by Lillebaby. The Lillebaby EveryWear Organic is a multi-functional soft shelled baby carrier that is extremely versatile. The organic carrier is also beautiful and made of luxuriously soft bamboo. Read on to learn why I think this carrier is so cool. Multi-position versatility and a wide range of adjust-ability is what really sets this carrier apart from the others I have tried. The Lillebaby can be worn FIVE different ways (including the coveted outward facing), taking this carrier from birth to toddler. The shoulder straps allow for adjusting in two places, and the padding is adjustable as well- making this carrier great for a wide range of users. Lillebaby also carries a waste extension strap (sold separately) for even more adjust-ability. Additionally, this carrier is very husband friendly, easily adjusting to fit my husband who is 6'4. With so many carry options and care taken to make this carrier adjustable to so many users the Lillebaby EveryWear Organic really is a carrier you can wear every way - everywhere.
Here are the Five positions that the Lillebaby EveryWear Organic offers:
1. Front Inward Facing (7 to 25 pounds)
2. Front Outward Facing (when child is able to support head- 25lbs)
3. Cradle Carry (with Infant insert sold separately- great for breastfeeding)
4. Back Carry (when child is able to sit independently to 43 pounds)
5. Hip Carry (15 to 43 pounds)

I love all the carry options the Lillebaby EveryWear offers, but it did take me some practice and adjusting to get the hang of it. However, within about a week I was able to get it adjusted perfectly and become pretty skilled at getting baby in and out on my own. The included instruction manual is very detailed and helpful, as is the The Lillebaby website (with product demo). I also wanted to mention that the customer service at Lillebaby is outstanding. I e-mailed them with questions about using the carrier, and I heard back from them within hours with a ton of great information.
I have been trying out my Lillebaby EveryWear Organic Carrier for over a month now and have really put this carrier through its paces. I have tried it both on my toddler and on my 8 month old niece and both girls have been loving the Lillebaby EveryWear. My niece is very social and especially LOVES the outward facing option because it allows her to smile at everyone. I have found it to be great for long hikes, shopping, working around the house, gardening, and walks around the neighborhood. The thick padded waste band and padded straps make the Lillebaby ultra comfortable for mom, and the ergonomically designed seat and backrest promote healthy spine development for baby.

The Lillebaby EveryWear Organic Carrier is so beautiful, feels great, and is made from eco friendly bamboo. I've blogged about my love of bamboo before and this carrier is no exception. It feels so silky soft, is very durable, wicks away sweat, and it feels great next to babies skin. The deep brown "earth" color is so pretty and is great for both moms and dads. Its also just a good looking carrier, with simple sleek lines.

The design of the new Lillebaby EveryWear Organic is great, with lots of attention to detail. I really appreciate the two pocket design. I can carry my wallet and keys in the Lillebaby EveryWear with ease. The adjustable and removable hood is also very useful, and is probably my favorite feature . It its great for when baby falls asleep in the carrier, is easy to get on and off, and protects little heads from the sun or rain. The carrier itself also folds up nicely, and easily fits in my purse. Finally the outward facing option is very fun. The Lillebaby has a unique adjusting seat and removable head support that allows for safe outward facing option- while still maintaining an ergonomic design. If you are looking for a carrier with a ton of great design details, that is ultra versatile, and that you can share with your husband I completely recommend the Lillebaby EveryWear Organic.
Subscribe and Win: The Lillebaby EveryWear Carrier is made by Scandinavian Child, sign up for their e-mails (bottom of the page) and you will be entered into a draw to win some of their amazing products.

Buy: The Lillebaby EveryWear Organic carrier is just now hitting the shelves of lots of great shops, check out there Where to Buy page for details on where you can find yours.

The New Physics of Childhood - Book Review and Giveaway

I am super excited to tell you all about an amazing new book : The New Physics of Childhood by Christina Ivazes. The New Physics of Childhood takes a look at the common societal myths that have been sabotaging our parental instincts, and replaces them with honest, natural, and whole approaches to parenting. This wise book, with strong roots in attachment parenting, is a must read and I am thrilled to be able to offer a copy to give to one of my readers.

The New Physics of Childhood is an extremely comprehensive book, focusing on wholeness and following our best example; the model of nature. It takes the reader from pregnancy, childhood, teen years, and beyond- focusing on a prevention model. This book takes a very holistic approach to parenting: connecting the act of child-rearing to our community, society, and environment. It has a strong attachment parenting feel as well, focusing on what is truly best for the child. I know I will be picking up this book again and again, and I completely recommend it to all parents, those who are planning on becoming parents, and support people of parents.

The New Physics of Childhood has brought me a lot of new ideas and knowledge, but it has also served to validate my own practices and parenting philosophies. I consider myself an attachment parent- and this book really reflects my own parenting values. I also really appreciate the advice, reassurance, and facts about breastfeeding in The New Physics of Childhood. The author has outlined some important (rarely told) truths that I wish I had known before I became a Breastfeeding mom. I also really love the list "10 ways every adult can support a breastfeeding mother" (pg.52) - its is a must have for posting on the fridge.

I often find parenting books kind of daunting to read, but not The New Physics of Childhood. This book is set up in a very easy to read format, with great analogies and examples. Additionally the language is very user friendly and can be easily digested by everyone. I never felt like I was reading a textbook while reading The New Physics of Childhood (like so many parenting books), but more like a lovingly written guide from a wise grandma or aunt. I also love how each chapter is introduced with a poem and a sweet drawing by a little one. This book is a wealth of knowledge, but it still feels very personal.

I loved every chapter in this book, but I would have to say I am especially impressed with chapter 16: Relationships with Planet and Environment. First of I all- I am just thrilled that this book included a chapter on our relationship with our Environment. The author does a great job discussing some major problems facing our environment today, then introduces simple solutions that we can all do. This chapter also includes an easy to use chart that can take us from problem to solution when it comes to being responsible about our treatment of the earth. This chapter does not offer "feel good" ways to play green with our kids, but concrete ways that we as parents can lead by example.

Parts of this book may go against things your parents have taught you, things society teaches us about parenting shoulds (your child should sleep in their own room, etc) and even challenge several modern conveniences of today's parenting choices- but I think a little shake-up is a good thing. With so many problems (such as high c-section rates, childhood obesity, and childhood mental illness) only getting worse I think the honesty and willingness to challenge whats not working in our parenting approaches, is a breath of fresh air. I have have definitely been rethinking some of my own parenting approaches and practices since reading The New Physics of Childhood.

About the Author: While reading this book, it becomes immediately apparent that the author is a wise woman with a deep love for children. Christina Ivazes (aka Granny Pants) has a diverse background as a child advocate, working with children in many different capacities for over 4o years. In 1998, she even received the National Point of Light Award for her work with youth. She also brings the experience and love that has been amassed through her role as a big sister to five, mother of three, and a grandmother to seven. To learn more about this amazing woman- check out her website bio. Buy your own copy of The New Physics of Childhood here. Its on sale for only 14.95 + shipping- such a great deal!

Sweet Softies for Easter - Three Owls Toy Studio Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

While searching for some home-made toys for my girls to find on Easter morning, I stopped by Three Owls Toy Studio and fell in love with the sweet bunny softies that are lining the shelves. This wonderful shop carries natural toys made with love in Nelson, BC. Each uniquely adorable softie is eco-friendly and made made from re-loved materials. Three Owls has an ever changing selection of one of a kind treasures, and currently has Little Bunnies and Sweater Rabbits that would make lovely Easter gifts.

I had a chance to try the most precious kitten softie from Three Owls Toy Studio. This little guy, which my youngest calls "meow meow", has become an instant treasure in our home. He has already been packed around town, snuggled up in bed, and played with in every inch of our home. He is so soft, has the sweetest kitten face, and is the perfect size for my little toddler to tuck under her arm. I also love how the kitten from Three Owls is so well designed, is a truly unique toy, and how he even stands on his own. As you can tell I have a thing for home-made softies- I think I love him as much as my girls do.

The soft toys from Three Owls Toy Studio are made from natural fabrics, such as wool and silk that has been reclaimed from sweaters, skirts, coats, and other fabric treasures. I love recycling, re-claiming, and re-using fabric- its such a great way to reduce our waste and create beautiful items out of high quality and unique textiles. All of the fabric used by Three Owls is thoroughly washed with eco friendly products, and is crafted in a pet and smoke free environment. The stuffing in each soft toy is clean, natural, wool sourced from happy local sheep. Beautifully Green and made by loving hands- I completely recommend you stop by Three Owls Toy Studio.

In my own quest to be more ethical in my purchases, I have really gotten into buying home-made. Home-made items support local artists, are made under fair working conditions, and are free of toxins that many store bought toys contains. Home-made items are also completely unique, made with quality materials, and will last generations. Like many Etsy Shops, Three Owls is a mom owned and operated business. As I've mentioned before, I love to support other moms so I feel great shopping at Three Owls Toy Studio.

About the artist: Everything at Three Owls Toy Studio is lovingly designed, sewn, stuffed, and embroidered by the very talented Lara Blackman. With a background in fashion design and dress making, Lara uses her sewing skills and imagination to create beautiful and whimsical toys that are loved by young and old alike. She began Three Owls in 2007 while living off the grid on a remote BC mountaintop with her two small children. In her old cabin, she used an antique singer treadle machine and a set of stove-top irons to start her small toy business. Lara is a true pioneer woman- growing her shop with lots of hard work into a business that can sustain herself and her two young daughters while also benefiting the world we live in. To learn more, check out Lara's blog and The Three Owls Toy Studio Website.

Shop: Three Owls Toy Studio is always stocking their shelves with new adorable creations, so stop by the Etsy shop often to see what in. Besides the lovely kitten and bunnies featured here, Three Owls Toy Studio has cozy Sweater Babies, Natural Musical Dolls, Plush Lions, and so much more. Three Owls Toys can also be bought in these shops across BC.

The Giveaway: Just in time for Easter- Lara from Three Owls Toy Studio has offered to giveaway a Sweater Rabbit. I love shopping at Purl Mama & Baby and I completely recommend this shop to everyone. I had a chance to try the Ergo Pouch Bamboo Pyjamas from Purl Mama & Baby, and they are wonderful. I have a thing for owls, and these cozy owl pajamas are just the cutest. I also love the bright colors, stripes, and the word Bedibye printed on the leg. The design of these PJ's is also great. My daughter often gets up in the night or early morning to use the bathroom, and these two piece pajamas make life so much easier. My daughter loves these cuddly PJ's too and will always choose them first from her drawer.

Bamboo is perfect for sleepwear for so many reasons- its eco friendly, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-static, and silky soft. These Pajamas also keep baby warm in the winter, yet wick away sweat keeping them dry on hot summer nights. I only dress my girls in chemical free PJ's- so I also really appreciate that Ergo Pouch Pyjamas are free of nasty fire retardants (toxic chemicals sprayed on most synthetic pajamas). Additionally, our Ergo Pouch Pyjamas are very well made, easy to get on, and wash up beautifully.
Purl Mama & Baby carries a great selection of beautiful and stylish clothing for babies and Kids. My favorite line at Purl Mama is the Three Little Tree's clothing. Purl Mama has just listed the new summer collection, and it is beyond cute! Three Little Trees makes uniquely gorgeous cotton clothing in sizes newborn to 4. They use beautiful and unusual fabric to create sweet classic styles for boys and girls. Something else I love about Three Little Trees- each item comes with a packet of seeds that you can plant with your little one and watch the world grow- so darling. Three Little Trees clothing is prefect for summer and spring, and I will definitely be ordering a dress (or two) for my little one.

Baggu Reusable Bag Review

Plastic bags are awful for our planet, so I have really been trying to make the switch to cloth grocery bags. In my pursuit of the 'perfect cloth bag' I came across Baggu. This wonderful company has designed a great little bag- they are beautiful, compact, lightweight, and very strong. They are by far the most user friendly and well designed cloth bag I have tried.

Baggu bags make switching to cloth so easy. These fold-able and super compact bags are small enough to pop in your pocket or glove box. I can fit a 5pack of Baggu bags easily in my medium sized purse. Nylon is so much lighter that traditional cotton bags too, making them easy to always have on hand for unexpected shopping trips. Baggu bags are also rip-proof and easily machine washable. Baggu Bags really take all of the hassle out of cloth, and have allowed me to ditch plastic for good.
I tried the 5 pack in Gem, and I love them. My five bags came in a great little drawstring pouch, and they easily hold enough groceries for a family of 5. The shape of Baggu is simply perfect as well. It is based on the time-tested plastic grocery bag- but made with nylon. Baggu Bags are flat bottomed, and hold up to 50lbs. The wide handles are comfortable and never cause hand-ouch. I also love that they are so grocery store friendly- fitting perfect into those bag holders.

Baggu bags are super stylish and beautifully bright too. With over 50 colors and prints to choose from, they make using cloth look so good. Unlike my old mix-mash stash of cloth bags, Baggu bags are something I feel proud to pull out in the grocery line-up.

We all know plastic bags are bad for the planet, but did you know that world-wide humans use 4 to 5 Trillion plastic bags annually? Plastic bags are not biodegradable, therefor can be found polluting almost every corner of our planet. They are awful for animals, especially sea animals that often eat them and die. They are burned in garbage dumps, which causes toxic fumes to be released into our air. Furthermore, it takes a lot of oil to make all of these bags (430,000 gallons of oil to produce 100 million bags). This probably makes many of you ask- how much difference can using cloth bags really make? Well a single Baggu Bag eliminates the use of 300-700 bags a year- amazing! This just shows that changing our shopping habits really is something we can each do to help out our planet.
Baggu Bags are not just for groceries. I have used mine as a wet-bag for cloth diapers, as a work-out bag, to hold snacks for traveling, as a toy bag, as a purse, and for shopping everywhere. I'm sure I will find hundreds of other uses as well. Watch the video below- to hear about more inventive ways to use your Baggu and to see a great demo on how to turn a Baggu bag into lovey gift wrap.

Buy: I love my pack of Baggu and completely recommend them. Baggu Bags are available online at BagguBag.com

Network with Baggu: Baggu is on facebook and twitter ~ follow and fan to stay in touch with Baggu and learn about new bags, sales, discounts, etc

I recently had a chance to try several items from Burt's Bees, and I loved every one of them. Read on to learn more about what Burt's Bees has to offer, and to find out how you can win 75$ worth of Burt's Bees goodies. Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap: I love this soap! I actually use it all the time, and have talked about it on this blog before. This gentle and 99.41% natural soap is wonderful for cleaning babies delicate skin. It is made from buttermilk and oat flour; making it soothing, nourishing, and safe for even the smallest baby. I love that Burt's Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap doesn't contain any phalates or other harmful chemicals. The round bar also lathers nicely, cleans beautifully, and smells so yummy (like honey and milk- mmmm). I use this soap on myself and my older girls too, and it is never drying or irritating. I completely recommend Baby Bee Buttermilk Soap for everyone- young and old, especially those with sensitive and dry skin.

Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion: This gentle and effective baby moisturizer is another favorite of mine. Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion keeps my babies skin nourished, moisturized, and smelling amazing. It is great after bath-time, and works wonderfully for baby massage. It contains natural emollients and oils such as buttermilk, beeswax, and coconut oil. These ingredients work to seal in moisture, soothe babies skin, and always leave my daughter feeling so soft. Its natural and gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin, and is a favorite with my older girls as well. I also really love how quickly this lotion is absorbed, leaving baby perfectly soft and never greasy.
Citrus Facial Scrub: This is the first Burt's Bees facial care product I have tried, and I am a complete convert. I have been using it for a couple of months now, and my skin has been noticeably smoother, healthier, and more youthful looking. The Citrus Facial Scrub works beautifully for exfoliating and cleansing, and is especially great for removing dry skin, dirt, and make-up. This all natural (sulfate-free) plant based scrub is gentle enough to use daily and is never drying. Since I tend to have sensitive skin, I really love that the Citrus Facial Scrub is much more gentle than other scrubs I have tried. This is a product I will definitely be using for a long time.

Green Tea & Lemongrass Hand Soap: I was super excited to try Burt's Bees new hand-soap and I have not been disappointed. The Green Tea and Lemongrass pump-able soap cleanses beautifully and smells great too. It contains green tea (which is a natural skin soothing antioxidant) and Lemongrass oil (which is a natural antiseptic and odor neutralizer). This wonderful combination leaves hands ultra clean- naturally. Green Tea and Lemongrass Hand Soap contains other natural and gentle ingredients such as honey, glycerin, and coconut oil that cleanse, and moisturize your hands without stripping away any of your protective oils. I also really love how gentle yet effectively this soap cleans- making it great for even the tiniest of dirty hands. Beeswax Lip Balm: I am a bit of a lip-balm addict, and I have been really happy with the Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. This 100% natural balm contains coconut and sunflower oils that nourish, condition, and soften Lips. It also contains beeswax that acts as a natural moisture seal to prevent and treat dry chapped lips. I also love that Beeswax Lip Balm is safe and gentle enough for the whole family. This balm also has a minty fresh zing, and comes in your choice of tin or tube!
