Add More ~Ing to Your Life : A Book Review and Giveaway

"My mission in this lifetime is to help guide my generation to shift their search for happiness from the outside to the inside."
Excerpt from Add More ~ing To Your Life, Gabrielle Bernstein

I recently finished reading Add More ~ing : A Hip Guide To Happiness by Gabrielle Bernstein, and I thought it was awesome! I'm not one to usually read self-help type books, but this book blew me away. Its fun and easy to read, yet teaches some life-changing skills that can really bring about positive change. If you are ready to choose happiness, read on to learn more about this great book and enter to win a copy of your own.

Add More ~ing is a modern girls handbook for banishing negative thoughts through positive affirmations, physical activities, and visual meditations. It centers around the idea of getting in touch with your inner voice/intuition or "ing", while at the same time creating more loving and happy thoughts. Its leads the reader towards positive change based on the ~ing Equation (rethinking + moving + receiving x 30 days = changing.) This 30 Day step-by-step happiness guide really makes being happy an easily obtainable goal.

Add More ~ing is designed to help you create positive change is all areas of your life. It can help you to banish negative body image, poor eating habits, bad relationship patterns, and so much more. It helps unlock past events that are dragging you down, and helps you release limiting beliefs. By teaching you how to forgive and release these unhappy thoughts, you are able to connect with your inner happiness. This book really has helped me to be more aware of my own limiting beliefs, to understand where they stem from, and to move on to a happier place. It has also allowed me to start banishing my negative self-talk, and replace it with ~Ing. I have honestly been more happy and had more energy since I began practicing the ~ing equation. I completely recommend this book to everyone.

The Author, Gabrielle Bernstein, is a motivational speaker dedicated to "bringing happy back". She bases her teachings on the renowned self-help book Course in Miracles. Gabrielle Bernstein has said that "following the Course’s suggestions has led me to forgive my past, release my future, and show up for the present with love and faith." She takes these amazingly insightful teachings and breaks everything down into easy steps that really resonate with the modern gal. She also has a great writing style, and rad attitude. When I first started reading this book, I couldn't help but think 'what do i have in common with a single girl from New York City', but cultivating happiness really is a universal idea. I found her book to be completely eye opening and inspiring. To learn more check out her website- Add More ~ing.

Green Beaver Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

You cant get more Canadian, or more pure than Green Beaver. This very Canadian company makes wholesome certified organic skincare, haircare, and bath products. Green Beaver products are not only made in Canada, but most of the ingredients are grown in Canada too. I love that everything from Green Beaver is safe and gentle for you, your family, and our planet. Read on to learn more, and to find out how you can win some Green Beaver products for your family.

I feel great recommending Green Beaver products and using them on my family. Green Beaver products are always free of scary things like parabens, artificial dyes/fragrances, phthalates, sulfates, and other known carcinogens. Green Beaver believes in the power of mother nature, and uses only pure, natural, and organic ingredients to make their wonderful natural care products. Many Green Beaver products also contain Wild-crafted Canadian ingredients, foraged gently from Canadian forests. And thankfully, Green Beaver never tests its products on animals.
Green Beaver has recently come out with a line of products for babies and kids called Green Beaver JR. I tried the Gentle Kids Shampoo from the kids line, and have been really happy with it. This certified organic and very mild shampoo works great, and is also tear free. It contains nourishing carrot oil and Canadian raspberry that hydrates and protects skin and hair. I have found that it lathers up really nicely and leaves my babies hair soft and clean. I love the smell of this shampoo too- it smells like berry pie, mmmm. I also love the bright and convenient pump bottles that Green Beaver uses- they are recyclable and super easy to use.

I also tried some wonderful products from Green Beaver's winter skin care line- Après-Ski. My whole family gets dry skin in the winter, so I was thrilled to try out Green Beaver's Winter Face Cream. This rich cream contains shea and cocoa butter, and is enriched with aloe and colloidal oatmeal making it soothing and nourishing for winter itches, and flaky patches. Green Beaver Winter Face Cream is non-greasy, super moisturizing, and doesn't cause any troubles for my sensitive skin. It works great as a daily face cream for myself, and I have been sharing it with my older girls too. I love that I have found a natural daily face cream that is very gentle, yet works so wonderfully at keeping my dry skin at bay.

One of the most versatile Green Beaver products is their Winter Cheek Balm. My whole family has been using this natural healing balm, and we all love it. Its basically a big chap-stick made for soothing winter skin, chapped lips, wind-burned skin, dry skin, or chapped skin. Like all Green Beaver products their Winter Cheek Balm is safe for everyone in your family, even wee babies. I have been using the Winter Cheek Balm on my baby girl a lot. She has a bad cold, and this balm is great for soothing chapped noses, lips, cheeks, and chins. It glides on easy, smells good, and also completely cleared up her recurring drool rash. It is amazing at moisturizing dry winter hands, elbows, and heels too. I love that the Winter Cheek Balm is completely safe and free of Petrolatum and silicone. This stuff is honestly my new miracle balm!

The Green Beaver website is very informative, and I completely recommend you check it out. Green Beaver has a page on common skin care ingredients to avoid. They also have a easy to read ingredients glossary, that allows you to really understand what ingredients they use and why. I also learned a scary fact on their site- The average person absorbs more chemicals through bathing that through eating and drinking- yikes. Yet another reason to use natural and chemical free products whenever possible.
Buy: Green Beaver Products are very reasonably priced, and can be found at stores across Canada as well at several online stores.

The Giveaway: Green Beaver has generously offered to give one of my readers all of the products reviewed above. So the winner will receive the Winter Face Cream, Winter Cheek Balm and Gentle Kids Shampoo.

EarthLust Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

EarthLust makes beautiful stainless steel water bottles that are safe for you and the planet. EarthLust bottles are stylish and uniquely designed with many limited edition bottles. I love using stainless steel water bottles, and EarthLust makes the best bottles around. I am super excited to tell you all about them, and also offer a giveaway of an EarthLust bottle of your choice.

I have been wanting to try an EarthLust bottle for a while now, so I was thrilled when I was sent the new 20oz Lotus bottle. I am completely in love with this bottle. Its so pretty, easy to wash, and convenient. Its the perfect size for drinking in the car, tucking in my purse, or taking to the gym. Like all EarthLust bottles, mine came with a handy clip that makes this bottle great for hiking. We hike a lot in the warmer months, and I love that I can clip this bottle to my pack or belt buckle and hike hands free. I also love the non-toxic cap; its easy to undo, yet completely leak proof.

EarthLust makes high quality, safe bottles that you can feel good about using with your family. Each bottle is handmade from unlined, food grade stainless steel. EarthLust bottles never contain BPA, Phthalates, or PVC and are painted with non-toxic paints. They also come in a wonderful variety of beautiful, artistic designs. You can select from 13 ounce, 20 ounce and 1 liter sizes, as well as insulated mugs. EarthLust also makes sports lids, that are great for kids on the go.

EarthLust is a mom owned business based out of San Fransisco. They are dedicated to producing safe, ethical, and environmentally friendly stainless steel bottles. EarthLust bottles are ethically made and this great company is a member of 1% for the planet, meaning they donate 1% of sales to organizations that are working hard to save our planet. EarthLust is a company I feel great supporting and I completely recommend their bottles to everyone.

EarthLust bottles are a great alternative to plastic water bottles, which are becoming a huge problem for our planet. Here's a couple reasons why I've stopped using plastic water bottles:
-its takes 700 years for a plastic bottle to start to decompose-yuck
-Americans will buy 25 billion plastic water bottles this year
-80% of these plastic bottles end up NOT being recycled
-24 million gallons of oil are needed to produce a billion plastic bottles
-studies have shown that most bottled water is not healthier than tap water
-plastic water bottles are often PETE bottles (polyethylene terephthalate), which may leach DEHA (a known carcinogen) when re-used.
-bottled water is expensive! I save so much money now that I have stopped buying it.
Where to buy: EarthLust can be bought online from EarthLust.com, or at many retailers across the US. If you are looking for a Canadian shop, I have found that Green Moose Boutique has a great selection of EarthLust bottles.

The Giveaway: EarthLust has generously offered to give a lovely stainless steel water bottle to one of my readers- ANY SIZE and design that you choose.

To Enter: Please visit EarthLust and check out all of their beautiful bottles. Then comment below telling me which one you will choose if you win. (This first entry is mandatory and must be done before additional entries)

Tip Top Health Shop Review and Giveaway

Tip Top Health Shop is a wonderful discount source for natural and organic products for home, health, and beauty. This Canadian shop carries natural beauty and bath products, natural pet products, baby products, safe weight-loss products, nutritional supplements, and so much more. I especially love that everything is discount priced well below the manufacturer's suggested price- yay! Read on to find out more, and to learn how you can win a natural Baby Starter Kit from Weleda.

Tip Top health Shop has an amazingly huge selection of natural products, and carries so many of my favorite brands. If its good for your family and the planet, I'm sure you can find it at Tip Top Health Shop. When a shop so many products, easy navigation is a must- and Tip Top health Shop totally delivers. The site is set up very well, making shopping easy and fast. Shoppers can browse by brand, category, or simply by using the search function. As a busy mom, a site that makes shopping so easy and fast is awesome!

Tip Top Health Shop sent me some Natures Gate Hemp Nourishing Shampoo and Hemp Nourishing Conditioner to try. It was actually one of my New Years resolutions to find myself natural hair products, and this stuff is great. Natures Gate Hemp shampoo and conditioner is formulated for frizzy hair like mine, and it is pretty good at taming my frizz. It leaves my hair very soft to the touch, and much less frizzy than other natural hair products I have tried. Natures Gate Hemp Nourishing Shampoo and Hemp Nourishing Conditioner contains essential fatty acids, hemp oil, brazil nut oil, and other vitamins. These natural and safe ingredients gently clean and condition, while making my hair noticeably healthy and tangle free too. The only thing that I don't like about this shampoo and conditioner, is that it really enhances my naturally curly hair (I try and tame my wild curls). I don't think I have found "my" shampoo, but I completely recommend this shampoo for anyone who is looking for a natural shampoo that will add more body and curls.

Tip Top health Shop also carries Natural Calm, which is a product that I love. Natural Calm is a magnesium supplement drink mix that helps balance your magnesium and calcium levels, making you more calm and relaxed. It is 100% natural, comes in several flavors, and is easily mixed with tap water. My older daughter, myself, and my husband all have had great results with Natural Calm. Its amazing for anxiety, stress, calming your mind after a busy day, and at helping you get to sleep. Natural Calm is available in gel or powder (I tried the powder), and is also available for kids, babies, and pregnant or nursing mothers.
Tip Top health Shop is a mom-owned and operated business, and I love to support other moms. Taryn, who is the owner and operator, is wonderful to work with and so sweet. She really strives to run a great eco-friendly business, has amazing customer service, and gives back to the earth. Tip Top Health Shop is a member of 1% for the Planet meaning that this shop donates 1% of profits to environmental groups that are working hard to help protect our planet. I also love that Tip Top Health Shop strives to carry as many Canadian products as possible.

Shop: I completely recommend Tip Top Health Shop: the prices are great, the selection is amazing, and shipping is very reasonable at just $5.95 for Canadian customers and starting at $6.95 for our friends to the south.

The Giveaway: Tip Top Health Shop has offered to give a Baby Starter kit from Weleda to one of my readers. This kit contains 5 Calendula enriched baby items that naturally keep baby clean, protected, soft, and happy from head to toe.

To Enter: Please visit Tip Top Health Shop and have a look around. Then comment below telling me what else you would love to try. (This first entry is mandatory and must be done before additional entries)
*** you may have notices that Tip Top Health Shop is down for maintenance- so for the first entry please just tell me your fave natural product that you would like to see in this shop :)

Bamboosa Yoga Pants Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

Oh Bamboosa, how I love you so. Bamboosa makes lovely clothing and baby items from the highest quality certified organic bamboo. Everything from Bamboosa is ultra soft, protective, and oh so natural. All of their items are made in the US and they are completely sweatshop free. Bamboosa is also super green- using renewable bamboo, eco-friendly dyes, and only recycled packaging. Read on to learn more about this great company and to find out how you can win an awesome pair of Sukara Long Pants.

I had a chance to try the Sukara Long Pant from Bamboosa, and I have been living in them ever since. These super soft and comfortable yoga style pants are made from a blend of organic bamboo, organic cotton, and Lycra. The Sukara Long Pants are great for yoga, lounging, walking/jogging, running around after a busy toddler, and as super comfy Pajamas. The Sukara Long Pants are so warm, yet really seem to breath. Another great thing about the Sukara Long Pants is that they don't stretch out or sag, making them form fitting and very flattering. I think they would also be amazing maternity wear, since they are so comfy and the waste rolls down.

Why bamboo? Well I love how soft and comfortable bamboo is. I have also found it to be super durable, easily washable, and great at keeping me cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Bamboo grows prolifically without pesticides or chemicals fertilizers- making it super eco-friendly too. I also just read on the Bamboosa site that bamboo offers excellent UV protection, so cool.
We also have a Bamboosa Lovee Covee blanket, that is well loved. I bought it when my baby was first born, and it is still used daily. She calls it her "softy", and she loves to snuggle up with it. The Lovee Covee blanket is generously sized, luxuriously soft, made from a blend of bamboo and organic cotton velour. It also is very durable. Ours goes everywhere with us, and is still as soft and lovely as the day it arrived. My favorite thing about this blanket though, is that its free of chlorine and formaldehyde so you know its safe.

Bamboosa not only shows love for mother nature by being so green, Bamboosa gives back in other ways too. They have a great Socks to Soldiers program where they donate a pair of Bamboo Crew Socks to a US soldier for every 25$ you spend. So if you spend 100, they will send 4 pairs of socks to soldiers in Afghanistan. So sweet, and such a great idea. Customers can also round up all purchases at Bamboosa, with their change going to non-profit organizations such as Oceana and Healthy Child Healthy World. As I've mentioned on this blog a lot, I love to support companies like Bamboosa who give back.
Buy: The Sukara Long Pants, Lovee Covee, and other Bamboosa products can be bought online, or at these retailers across the US and Canada. I have noticed that Bamboosa sizing is generous (similar to the GAP) so take that into consideration when ordering clothing.

The opinions expressed in the above review are my honest experiences, and thoughts. I did not receive any money for writing this review.

The Happy Magpie Maternity Tee Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

Eco friendly, organic, and so adorable...whats not to love about The Happy Magpie. This amazing company makes hip, comfortable, affordable, and naturally healthy t-shirts for expectant moms. The Happy Magpie tees are made in the US with 91% organic cotton, 9% spandex (for belly room). They are dyed and decorated with low impact, non-toxic and water based inks- making them great for the earth and for mom and babe.

The happy magpie is a symbol of happiness and fortune, and I can think of no greater happiness than a baby on the way. However, since I am not pregnant- I had my friend Sara try out a Happy Magpie maternity tee. She was sent a Flower Hip Happy Healthy tee, and it is so cute. The side rouching is very flattering and the length is great. Sara says her tee is super soft, well made, and stylish too. She especially appreciates the roomy sleeves and how comfortable this tee is. The Happy Magpie also has very fast shipping and great customer service.

The Happy Magpie T-shirts are not only super cute, but they are also so versatile. I know when I was pregnant I lived in yoga pants and maternity tees. The Happy Magpie t-shirts are great for running around town, yoga classes, relaxing at home, and just about anywhere you want to look hip and be comfortable. They look really nice dressed up with a skirt, or casual with jeans. Besides the tee that Sara tried, The Happy Magpie carries 6 other great styles. I love them all. My only complaint is that I didn't find this company about two years ago :)

The Happy Magpie was founded by two long time friends, who feel motherhood and organic just go great together. They are inspired by the thought of "mothers helping mother-nature for the next generation". I love the idea of promoting a green lifestyle, and this company really takes it to heart. This eco company shows love for mother nature by ensuring that every aspect of their company is environmentally friendly. They use organic cotton, natural dyes, and "less is more" packaging. And of course everything is made in the US under far working conditions.

The Happy Magpie is also a company with a big heart, and believe in paying it forward. They generously give 1$ from every tee sold to charities that help mothers, children, and the environment. The Happy Magpie also works with CMARC, a non profit organization that employs people with disabilities or special needs and pairs them with employers. I love to support companies that give back and feel great recommending The Happy Magpie to all expectant moms.

Buy: Expecting or have a friend who is? Buy The Happy Magpie tees online or at select retailers.

Beauty for Valentines Day- Everyday Minerals Makeup Review and Giveaway (TWO WINNERS)- CLOSED

Valentines Day came a little early for me this year thanks to a lovely gift of natural makeup from Everyday Minerals. Let me tell you this is so much better than a box of chocolates. New makeup is such a nice treat, and Everyday Minerals products are so pretty and fun. Read on to see how you can get some Everyday Minerals makeup for yourself.
Everyday Minerals is an amazing company that sells gorgeous vegan, organic, natural, and cruelty free mineral makeup. All of their make-up is made in the US without any nasty chemicals, plastics, or talc. All of the products I tried are so pretty, high quality, gentle on my skin, and also very reasonable priced. I also love that Everyday Minerals is a super ethical company that gives back to several domestic and international charities through the Everyday Forward initiative. I feel great supporting Everyday Minerals, and recommending it to everyone.
I tried two of the lovely blushed from Everyday Minerals. Come What May is a pink and shimmery shade perfect for a dewy daytime look. Wild Vines is more dramatic and great for nights out with friends or date night. I love them both! Everyday Mineral blushes came in wonderful cases too, with a sliding top for easy and mess free use. I've never been much of a blush wearer (I have naturally rosy cheeks) but I think Everyday Minerals has made me a believer.

I also tried the Icing on the Cake Vegan Lipstick. This pretty pink shade is very subtle, making it perfect for everyday use. Like all the Everyday Minerals glosses, its loaded with great ingredients such as pomegranate oil, tucuma butter, buriti oil (also known as the life tree) and passion fruit oil. It has been making my lips very soft and nourished and I completely recommend it to everyone. The price is amazing too- at only 4$!

I also had the opportunity to try a few Everyday Minerals eyes shadows. The All Spice shadow is luminous, shimmery, and looks great on its own or paired with a darker shade. The In The Garden Shadow is an antique bronze shade that really brings out my eyes. I use it sparingly for day, or use more for a smokey nighttime eye. I think my favorite shadow- and the one I am giving away- is the Lavender Collection eye shadow pallet. I love lavender eyeshadow, and this compact pallet has four lovely shades. The design of this shadow compact is genius too- each color has its own lid and a small brush hole perfect for easy application.
Everyday Minerals has one of the best sites around. I could go on and on about all the things I love about this site: fan clubs, great music, giveaways, cool graphics, and so many discounts. They also have a very helpful page on makeup directions, which I learned a lot from. I wear makeup all the time, but I still consider myself a little clue-less about application. The makeup itself is also so fun- with bright colors and names like Rock Anthem, Hipster Hippo, and Little Black Dress.
I love deals and freebies, and Everyday minerals has a ton of them for fanclub members. They have a more you buy, more you save Beauty Perks incentive where you can save up to 45%. Everyday Minerals has Super Specials page as well, where they offer free samples and free selected full sized products with orders. They have freebies too- you can try out a sample of your choice (a 5$ value) free with every order you place. What a great way to see what makeup works for you. Finally, Everyday Minerals has a ton of fun and fabulous giveaways. I especially love the A Kiss is Just a Kiss giveaway (win lipstick by commenting about the most memorable famous kiss).

The Giveaway: Everyday Minerals has generously provided TWO Lavender Collection eyeshadow palettes for my readers to win. So I get to choose two winners- yay.

Love, Love, Love....Organic Ergo Carrier Review and Giveaway- CLOSED

With Valentines Day just around the corner- I am so Happy to be able to review and give away something I truly LOVE: An Organic ERGO Baby Carrier. I fell in love with baby wearing when my youngest daughter was born. In-fact I credit baby wearing to saving my sanity. Especially during the first six months of my babies life. She had awful reflux, and cried non-stop if not held upright. Baby wearing allowed me to meet her needs while still having a bit of a life.

I have had a wonderful relationship with baby wearing and recommend it for so many reasons. Baby wearing is an important component of attachment parenting. It allows you to hold baby closely for hours everyday, strengthening your bond and making your baby feel loved. Studies have shown that babies who are worn regularly cry less, learn more, develop faster, and are generally happier than babies who are not. Baby wearing also helps newborns adjust to life outside the womb in a safe secure way, and is especially important for special needs, sick, or premature babies. Additionally, I have found baby wearing to be so convenient.

I have several different types of baby carriers, but my ERGO is quickly becoming a new favorite. I love how comfortable it is, both for me and my little toddler. The attention to detail and total ingenuity of the ERGO is amazing. The ERGO designers have really thought of everything, and designed a very user friendly carrier. I am especially loving how comfortable the ERGO is for both me and baby. Additionally, I love how easy the straps are to adjust and how the excess length can be tucked out of the way. The ERGO carrier is also so pretty! I have the Organic Black Carrier with Embroidery and I get so many compliments on how gorgeous this carrier is.
I have been using my new ERGO everywhere. It is great for hikes, shopping, traveling, gardening, street fairs/markets and even just getting some housework done. As the name suggests the ERGO is amazingly ergonomic too. Even with my bad back, I can walk for hours with my toddler in the ERGO without any pain. The padded straps and wide waste belt- also add to the comfort of this carrier. My daughter can be a terror when shopping or walking near busy streets, so I have really been appreciating that the ERGO keeps her safe and happy on my back(or front).

Some more things I love about my ERGO:
-It is made of certified organic cotton, under fair working conditions.
-The organic cotton used is super strong, yet ultra soft to the touch.
-The infant hood is wonderful for keeping out sun and rain. It also acts as a little hammock for babies head when she falls asleep.
-It folds up small enough to stash in my purse
-It is machine washable
So is the ERGO right for you? I think the ERGO is great for all parents of babies and toddlers. It can be worn from birth (with the infant insert) all the way up to 40lbs. It is great for front carrying, side carrying, back carrying, and even for breastfeeding. It fits my smaller frame, but is just as comfortable on my husband who is 6'4. Like I've mentioned the ERGO is also very easy to use and convenient.

The ERGOBaby website is a total wealth of knowledge. I've learned so much about my ERGO carrier and baby wearing in general from surfing around. If your a visual learner like me, the ERGO site has very helpful instruction videos. They also have an Ask The Doctor column, where concerned parents can ask a pediatrician any questions you may have. I also appreciate how attachment parenting centered the ERGObaby site is.
